Three Sister’s Island
This is an easy – drive by letterbox placed in celebration of my three granddaughters.
US 23 runs along the east side of Michigan, the sunrise side, and the shore of Lake Huron. There are many spectacular views of the mighty Huron as you drive north through scenic towns like Tawas, Oscoda and Harrisville. As you drive further north, 23 runs through Alpena. North of Alpena, US 23 runs between two inland lakes, Long Lake will be on your left and a little further along, Grand Lake is on your right.
Cottages line the road as you drive along Grand Lake. A very large log cabin will be on the right and soon after you will see three signs for Blue Horizon. About a half mile past the third sign is a small park, marked with a blue picnic sign. Pull off 23 into this small park.
Along the shore is a large boulder. Stand facing the boulder and look out to the lake. Three Sister’s Island will be slightly to your right.
Tun to your right and take 60 medium size steps between the shore and a line of bushy cedar shrubs. Glancing to your right you will see an opening that looks like the start of a game trail. Looking carefully back under the shrubs at this opening you will see a white stone. Under the stone, you will find what you seek.
Please carefully reseal the box and return it to its location.
