This box was recreated and reposition after being removed
Sloan Preserve was established in 2012 with Washtenaw County’s purchase of 50 acers of upland and flood plain along Mill Creek. The preserve features a network of 1.5 miles of trails, wonderful views of Mill Creek and many large old growth trees. Five of these trees will lead to your goal. Begin in the parking area off of Baker Road. Read the kiosk and examine the trail map.
Purple, orange, red, blue, yellow, green - choose the one that almost rhymes with circle.
Follow the trail down the hill
past the easement, until
Up the trail again you will climb
And find the first tree on your right that appears to recline.
This twister tree with broken limbs points the way.
Continue along from this first tree marker, do not delay
The path winds along and down below
The stream Mill Creek will soon show
The path will descend and then you will see
On the left of the trail the second great marker tree.
Standing tall and straight like a giant column
Will a small opening like a ^ at the bottom
Turn over the stone that sits before the open place
See the sign and then the stone carefully replace
The creek below you will soon come into sight
And another great tree close to the bank, to the right
This old tree stands on the creek side
With a hollow trunk that opens quite wide
And a bench for you to sit and wait
And for the next clue you to contemplate.
Listen to the water as it gurgles along
It’s a lovely sound, the Mill Creek song
As you sit and relax, look to the left side
On the creek bank is the fourth tree that has fallen and died
The long smooth ash tree trunk is your new clue
Follow it half way and look to the left for a view
The final tree is 4 poster that is marked
With initials and signs carved in its bark.
Between the arms, behind a stick is stored
This letterbox is your well earned reward.
PLEASE carefully return the box to its location and place the stick back in from of the box to completely conceal its location.
Thank you.
