Easy drive

Madera Canyon is a bird watchers paradise. Birders from all over the country, and the world, come to observe the variety of birds that pass through or inhabit the canyon. Especially during the migratory season.
It is also a place to enjoy a picnic, hike one of the trails or just relax and enjoy nature and some quiet time.
From I-19 take the Continental Road exit, go east on Continental and follow the signs to Madera Canyon.
As you go up the road, after you enter the recreation area, you will see the picnic sites and trail heads. Look for the Santa Rita Lodge, on the right, and go to the gift shop. Ask for the Friends of Madera Canyon box. While there you can get “Friends” information, check out the interesting gifts or just sit outside in the area provided and watch the birds and wildlife Maybe see a wild turkey or two. The lodge is a great place to spend a week end for some R.& R.
If you decide to stop and explore or use the facilities at one of the parking areas don’t forget to “pay where you park.”
Let us know of your experience in the canyon and feel free to ask for info. about The Friends of Madera Canyon
