Retired as of 6/20/11. Went to check on it and the plants in the whole area have been removed and new ones planted.

Some urban legends are true.

If one snopes around the internet enough, one would find the strange tale of the Hollywood Freeway Chickens. Although several conflicting and uncertain stories exist as to their origins, the fact remains that since sometime in the 1960s a colony of chickens roost along a busy freeway off-ramp in the heart of Los Angeles. Attempts have been made to have them removed, but a few would always elude capture and carry on. Upon my visit I couldn't find any, but at least one chicken is still there, in a tiny box.

Or at least, it was for over four years. Not a bad run.

If you explore the various on and off ramps in the area, you could find some feral feathered fowl, but I wouldn't recommend it. There are more dangerous things than bears and wolves in an urban forest. Transients are often in these areas, and I can find no safe and legal way to get you to the chickens. But keep your eyes open anyway.
