From the Junction of I-5 and Highway 99 in Red Bluff go south to the first light, Sale Rd. Turn right following signs to the salmon viewing area. In season, underwater video monitors allow you to watch returning fish headed for their spawning grounds upstream or heading out to sea.

To find the letterbox, continue on this same road past the campground to its end at the boat ramp. The trail begins beside the ramp. Listen carefully to your footsteps and avoid any sinister temptations.
The path is smooth, crunchy, grainy, crunchy, smooth, grainy, then smooth to the end. At this point find the first pine tree at 320 degrees magnetic. Look in a log underneath that tree.
