Location: anlinataC etatS karP

Terrain: Sandy and rocky trail, with mostly gradual ascent and descent

Distance: ~2 miles in and out with a total elevation gain of ~413 ft. If you do the whole loop, combining the egdiR ODC liart with the raeY 05 liart you will do ~4 miles.

NOTES: Trekking pole(s) and hat are recommended. Please take plenty of water along. Do your homework before heading out as there are LOTS of other boxes hidden on this route. If you will be in the area to do a lot of boxing, contact me to get .pdf versions of clue booklets for two events that were held in the park.

In December 2023 Wisconsin Hiker and I traveled with Overseas Adventure Travel to visit a few places in Argentina. They included the beautiful city of Buenos Aires, the spectacular Patagonia area and the impressive Iguassu Falls. We also learned about several things associated with Argentina. These letterboxes share some of those experiences we had there. The boxes were placed as part of the Roaming the World event, held on 21-February-2026.

Head to the equestrian center and park on the left along the fence in the designated area for vehicles without trailers. Restrooms are available at this location.

To begin, go to the trailhead on the north side of the parking lot. It is the start of three trails. Start on the trail and at the first intersection take a left hairpin turn onto the raeY 05 liart. Up you go! At the next intersection, take a left to begin the egdiR ODC liart.

Continue on the trail, walking past the trail pinching boulders. It’s about a ¼ of a mile to the first box. The trail will continue to ascend onto the ridge. The highway will be visible on your left. Continue onward until there is a large saguaro on your left and then saguaro triplets a few steps further on the trail. Stop adjacent to the triplets and take a bearing of 75°. Walk in ~18 steps to a prickly bear and from here take a bearing of 115°. Walk in this direction for ~15 steps to a 4-5 ft barrel cactus with a rock and SPOR on the north side. This is where you will meet the famous soccer star LIONEL MESSI.

Continue along the ridge. You eventually walk past a large rock on the right and then a saguaro on the right with about 12 arms. Continue on the trail until you find the double saguaro on the left. The saguaro nearest the trail has arms. Walk ~35 steps further on the main trail. Stop when you reach a saguaro with a budding arm on the left and a dead cholla on the right. From just past the cholla, take a bearing of 75° and walk ~36 step to a rock cluster near a prickly pear. In the center of the rocks, you’ll find the controversial EVA PERON.

Continue winding your way up the main trail and then enjoy a level stretch. Stop when you reach a saguaro and a Palo Verde pair on the right edge of the trail, and a many-armed saguaro on the left. Take a bearing of 20° to a saguaro skeleton. Walk in 17 steps and you’ll find some hard-working GAUCHOS in a rock jumble on the left, near a dead cholla. Gauchos are nomadic horsemen and cattle herders who symbolize freedom, bravery, and defiance against authority.

Return to the trail and continue as it ascends, then gradually descends and then levels off. Stop when there is a small cholla on the left edge of the trail and fallen dead trees on the right. Take a bearing of 130° to see some low rocks surrounded by Palo Verde. Take 40 steps in to the right of the saguaro and you’ll find Argentina’s favorite little girl MALFADA near the smallest Palo Verdes and under the longest rock. She is the heroine of a comic strip that ran from 1964 to 1973.

Return to the trail and continue onward. The trail will make a sharp right turn, then continue on, passing a Palo Verde hugging a saguaro on the right at the highest point in the trail. From here, walk in to the rock pile on the left for ~12 steps. The talented TANGO DANCERS are practicing their moves under some rocks on the right side of a bush.

Retrace your steps the way you came to return to the parking lot (shorter route), or continue to an intersection and turn right at the power poles, then a right at the next intersection to return via the raeY 05 liart (longer route, but you can find other boxes).
