Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairies are a favorite of my daughter, and the flower featured here is not native to Texas, but of course, common names can confuse things. We do have a plant commonly called windflower that is also known as the Ten-petal Anemone, or scientifically as Anemone berlandieri. This fairy is planted at the edge of meadow and shade, hoping this is a good spot to wait for the blooms to appear in spring.

Enter and pay fees at Grelle Recreation Area. Follow the road to the end and park for the Wild Turkey Trail. Follow the Wild Turkey Trail until it intersects with the Cottontail loop. The trail markers were not available at the time of planting, but it is at the place where the trail crosses a low area that seems it could sometimes have water. Turn right onto the Bridal/Bridle Trail and follow it until you intersect Cottontail Loop. Continue straight/right on Cottontail loop until the south intersection of Cottontail and Coyote Crossing.
Head north on Coyote Crossing for about 84 steps through 2 small clearings. At the far edge of the second clearing, proceed 18 more steps and look to the left of the trail for an oak with a V shaped trunk, 11 steps off trail. The Windflower Fairy is hiding crouched under a rotting log at the back base of this V oak. Please make sure she is well-hidden again when you leave!
