This box is dedicated to the Rushmore Waterslide that used to be in Rapid City, SD. If you’re a history fan and live in the Black Hills area, you might enjoy following “History Below the Pines” on Facebook. They are the ones who inspired me to carve this stamp. While the box is located where the old park used to be, I personally think if there was a Waterslide where the box is, it would be one heck of a ride! This trail is tricky at times, so I have posted the GPS coordinates below in case you feel lost. The trail is just over 2 miles long, round trip. You will want to bring some water and maybe some snacks. The end of the trail is a great place to relax and grab a quick bite. Trail is dog friendly as well, just make sure you have their leash and disposable bags.
Start on Sturgis Road heading to Black Hawk, SD. You will eventually reach the intersection with Peaceful Pines Road. You will want to head west on Peaceful Pines Road. You will follow this road, through a residential neighborhood until you see a turnoff on the side of the road. There are two trails you will see, one is for ATVs that goes straight, the other will be to the North and look more like a hiking trail. This is the trail that will take you to your destination.
The trail is marked with blue tags on the trees all the way to the end, just in case you get off track. You will head uphill after a bit of walking, then the trail begins to turn to the East. You will start to go downhill, past some brushes, and a little pine tree grove. Eventually, the trail borders a large drop off. You will be following this trail the entire way until the end (remember the blue tree markings)!
Once you’ve reached the end of the trail, you will see a small rock formation at the end. Your prize is on the other side of the formation hidden under a POR. Please hide after found. Good luck!
Logbook and stamp included. Please bring your own ink.
