The River Recharge Natural Area is the seventh natural area to the San Marcos Greenbelt and got its name due to the many karst features on the property. It is especially important as a site where rainwater can percolate down to the Edward’s Aquifer and ultimately reach the San Marcos River. So far there are about 2.5 miles of trails, including one called Doline Savanna, where this box can be found.
Directions:
Go to the River Recharge Natural Area at north end of Bishop Street where it meets Lisa Ln and park near gate.
Clues:
Walk around gate to kiosk on right and walk through it onto the Swallet Loop. A little after crossing a dry creek, come to jct with Doline Trail. Go straight on it past jct with Stone Spur Trail and jct with Service Lane to jct with Karst Corner Loop. Go left on Doline Loop 35 steps, going past bench on left, to tree on left with DS13 tag. Go left off trail 8 steps then right 4 steps to medium Live Oak tree. LB is at back base under rocks & leaves.
