Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 0.5 mi RT)
The River Recharge Natural Area is the seventh natural area to the San Marcos Greenbelt and got its name due to the many karst features on the property. It is especially important as a site where rainwater can percolate down to the Edward’s Aquifer and ultimately reach the San Marcos River. So far there are about 2.5 miles of trails, including one called Swallet Loop, where this box can be found.
Directions:
Go to the River Recharge Natural Area at north end of Bishop Street where it meets Lisa Ln and park near gate.
Clues:
Walk around gate to kiosk on right and walk through it onto the Swallet Loop. A little after crossing a dry creek, look for tree on right with SL5 tag just before jct with Doline Trail. Go back 15 steps then left off trail 7 steps to leaning juniper tree. LB is at back base under rocks & leaves.
