They say the trail is watched, not by people, but by trees.
Each one stands where it always has, waiting.
Not speaking aloud… but guiding, for those who know how to look.
Take your first 100 steps.
There, on your right, leans the Box Elder, Quiet and clever.
It stretches toward the path like a finger pointing forward, eager to help.
It doesn’t speak, just gestures. That’s how it’s always been.
After another 150 steps, On your left you’ll meet the Old Walnut.
Once mighty, now barely holding on.
Its bark is cracked, and its leaves sparse, but its roots run deep.
It watches, quiet and solemn, like it knows how this ends.
250 more steps, and you’ll find the Oak on the right standing proud.
Behind it rests a rusted tractor tiller, long forgotten.
The Oak doesn’t seem to mind. It remembers the days of fields and labor.
Now it just waits, steady and strong.
Just 80 steps ahead, the woods grow younger.
A cluster of Hickories stands close, like siblings.
They surround an old stove, as if keeping it warm.
They giggle in the breeze, full of curiosity and whispers.
Then, with 200 more steps, you’ll reach the end of the line.
On the right, the Tall Dead Oak rises leafless down low, but alive at the top.
It looks gone, but it isn’t.
It’s waiting. And it’s guarding something.
Not just bark and branch but secrets.
If you’ve made it this far, you’re meant to be here.
Bring your light the kind that sees what the sun can’t.
Only then will the Oak reveal what it’s kept hidden all these years.
Somewhere nearby, you’ll find the Box, locked. You’ll need a UV light to reveal the combination.
Some say the trees are silent.
But not here.
Here… the forest remembers.
