there are many graveyards in the united states that have fallen into disrepair and neglect. some of these graveyards have only one lone soul and others have many graves. there is an old russian proverb that says "to be remembered in death is to have truly lived". this is my way of remembering.
forgotten graveyard # 9
wells currier burial lot
the wells currier burial lot only has 2 bodies buried there. mr. currier was buried on april 28, 1858. his son, samuel g. is with him but there is no information as to when he was buried. the graveyard itself is quite sad. there are no stones, but there are plenty of weeds, and the gate is rusted shut. it is unknown if there were ever any stones to mark the graves or if mr. currier and his son were moved to another resting place with a failure to record the whereabouts.
to find this sad burial lot you are going to 13 mountain road. the parking at this location is not good at all so i am directing you to a safer spot to park your ride. you will be taking lull road to reach your destination. when you reach mountain road don't turn onto this road but look across at peacock hill road, turn here. there is a small pull off on your right just a short ways down. it is only a 3 minute walk from here to the burial lot.
walking down the street you will see the elijah gove cemetery, which has an iron gate. keep walking along the wall until you reach the other iron gate. this is the wells currier burial lot. inside the lot notice the granite posts that mark where a fence once was. now turn around and head back in the direction you came for about 9 steps. there is a large rock on the top of the wall, you can't miss it as it is the only rock on top of the wall. you will notice this rock sits partly on a slab. right under the rock, and then the slab is a an open space. there is a small removable rock in this open space. pull it out and reach in for a small camo bag. i did not consider this particular wall to be part of the actual burial plot nor consider it in danger of being torn apart. follow instructions!
forgotten graveyard #10
elijah gove cemetery
enter the elijah gove graveyard through the iron gate.
find the grave of delila w.
now turn around and look at the interesting tree with the fence going right through it.
now look to your left at the corner at the fence and see 2 granite posts on the other side.
reach your hand through the fence to the right side of the first granite post.
under leaves, duff and and a small rock find a small camo bag.
as a side note none of the forgotten graveyard series are in a graveyard or in the walls that surround it but rather in the very near vicinity.
