Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 400 meters RT)
The origins of the village of Bridge of Orchy date back to around 1751 when the British military built a bridge over the River Orchy. This construction was part of a major road building program in the Highlands for the purpose of facilitating troop movements. The old Military Road still exists and crosses the bridge as part of the West Highland Way, Scotland's best loved long distance walking route extending 96 miles from Milngavie to Fort William. I was here to hike the final part of the trail from Bridge of Orchy to Fort William, and this box represents the beginning of that journey.
Directions:
Park at the Bridge of Orchy Hotel on A82.
Clues:
Walk west across the Bridge of Orchy and bear right then left to the West Highland Way trail with a sign about it. Go on it about 100 meters to a gate, then through it for 39 steps. Go right off trail 8 steps to a double-trunk tree at edge of creek. LB is at base under flat rocks and moss.
