Part of my Beer Series
Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 100 yards RT)
Fairbanks is one of the best places to see the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, and the Aurora Winter Train from Anchorage to Fairbanks is a great way to get there while enjoying the winter wonderland of Alaska’s backcountry from the comfort of a warm railcar. Add a few Alaskan brews and you have what I call the Aurora Beerealis. I did just this on my trip there to see the lights, and left behind this letterbox memento.
Directions:
Go to the Alaska Railroad-Fairbanks Depot at 1031 Alaska Railroad Depot Road and park in lot.
Clues:
Walk into depot (check hours) and look for the Penny Machine where the box is behind the right side. I couldn't find a better hiding place and snow was everywhere outside, so please be discreet (maybe pretend to tie your shoe).
