Terrain Difficulty: Moderate (moderate slope, 6 km RT)
The alphorn has long been a tool used by Swiss shepherds to call cows from the pastures and into the barn at milking time, but the main function was for communication with the herdsmen on the neighboring Alps and the people down in the valley below. With the passing of time, the alphorn almost totally disappeared as an instrument used by Swiss shepherds and it was only with the revival of folklore and tourism that the it experienced a renaissance and became a national symbol. Though you might not see one while hiking in the alps, you can find this box while hiking from First to Lake Bachalpsee.
Directions:
Go to First Gondoloa near Dorfstrass & Gydisdorf.
Clues:
Ride it to top via Bort and Schreckfeld. Walk on the wide gravel path up to Lake Bachalpsee. At hut on right with trail sign next to it, go right and up to two benches. Continue up past second bench 40 steps on a faint path to a rock outcrop with great view of lake. LB is at near base under small rocks. Please be discreet and be sure to say hi to the cow with red tag #53, who licked me while I was placing this box.
