Wands Up!
Begin your Wizardly Letterboxing Journey by parking your carriage in the main parking lot and entering the building through the double doors. Remember to whisper “Alohomora” and the doors will magically open for you with a wave of your wand.
The boxes you seek are four in number, representing each of the four noble houses of Hogwarts. Remember to make your way discreetly through these hallowed halls, so as not to arouse the suspicion of any oafish Muggles. If you lose your way, you can be sure that the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff Keepers of the Books can be counted on for help.
Box #1: Slytherin
You will need all your cunning to uncover this box. Channel the wit and bravery of Severus as you proceed past the empty and clueless muggle eyes that lurk behind the desk of the circulating
At 16 paces past the library cop desk, on your right, you will pass the monster mouth that eats books already read. Careful not to raise the ire of the book eating machine, tiptoe along the wall of cubbies, past the watchful eyes of Jennie and Harvey until you come face to face with the drip wall.
Turn right through the glass double doors into the Chamber of Teens, tread carefully for this species of Muggle is known to be as big of a handful as a Mandrake.
Proceed North past the Keeper of the Books throne.
Seek the books that are quilled by those found in the Middle of the alphabet. Slytherin’s are known to be somewhat Heartless…and they do often seem “Cursed by the Serpent”…they do their worst under a New Moon. But remember Slytherins remain steadfast in their belief that they are always “right!”
Box #2: Hufflepuff
With Slytherin-like sneakiness return the box where you found it and slither your way out of this snake pit in a southernly direction. Heed the traffic light by keeping it to your left. Ever a lover of earthly and magical creatures, you will know have entered the Hufflepuff’s domain you when Peter gives you a sly smile.
After honoring Peter with a gentle greeting look ahead to the moon and the follow the stars..portside. Go beyond where the winds blow in the willows and where the island holds treasure. Find the portal to Oz and face the bridge to the well-ordered land of “HKIC.”
You seek one of the three Woodland Sentries. He is known by his indigenous name “Geauga.” Keeping his back to where the letterbox is planted, he keeps watch with his masked eyes. This thoughtfully placed box is where the “empath” Hufflepuff would start their book search exploring equally happiness, sadness, and all such warm fuzzies. It’s all rolled up and tucked in –ready for a emotional read.
Box #3: Ravenclaw
Once you have re-potted the box with true Hufflepuff gentility, tiptoe past the tank of the gilled and finned. Be wary of tiny muggles! Be sure not to step on any. They are often loud and curious …don’t let them know what you are up to! Check your time on the wall and give Peter a wink as you make your way, with Ravenclaw stealth and wisdom, to the Room of Ancient and Revered Visual and Audio Technology.
In this space you must remain hypervigilant. The Ravenclaw bookkeepers are very protective of this box and only allow the quietest of seekers to succeed so ssshhhhh…..
Enter carefully and remember that Ravenclaw’s appreciate music to help them learn even better. They seek the soothing sounds of one of their own--A famous German with big hair who turned a deaf ear to criticism and wrote a special tune “fur” a very special lady. His 5th will have you on your knees in awe.”
Box #4: Gryffindor
Brilliant! After making sure you re-hid the box out of sight of magpie Muggles, arise and make your way bravely back to the magic “gates.” Wave your wand to step out into the sun (hopefully it’s sunny).
Walk past the “Eagle Post” boxes tapping the bricks along the wall for fun. Find Hufflepuff colored parallel lines to safely usher you across the macadam…so you don’t get whomped by a MWV (Muggle Wheeled Vehicle).
Tiptoe gingerly, yet courageously “Gryffindor style”, along the hedgerow making your way toward what looks like a garden home for bowtruckles and many species of magical creatures and fantastical beasts. Depending on the season, you may need to brave your way through the milkweed and nature’s bounty for what you seek.
Low to the ground, you shall find an ancient Bibliothecary Bench—a spot for weary catalogers, bibliosophs, and curators to recoup and recover from the speed of technology. Screw your courage to the sticking place and feel underneath for the last box. Grrryyfindorrrr!
