Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 0.5 mile RT)
Burnet is considered one of the best places in Texas for viewing wildflowers. The town officially gained recognition to the well-known fact in 1981, when the Texas State Legislature officially designated Burnet the “Bluebonnet Capital of Texas”. A good place to see them is at Haley Nelson Park, where this box can be found.
Directions:
From Hwy 281 go west on TX 29 for 0.7 miles, then right on Garden Trails Rd to Haley Nelson Park. Go to back lot and park near trail on right.
Clues:
Walk right to gravel trail and go left as it meanders along right side of soccer fields and beyond to an open field full of bluebonnets in March-April. Continue on trail as it bends left, then left again, heading back toward parking area. From part of trail with lighter colored gravel go right off trail 35 steps to a lone, huge oak tree in a clearing. LB is at back base between the tree and a bush under a rock & leaves. Continue on trail back to parking lot.
