Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 0.2 miles RT)
Two solar eclipses criss-cross Texas in 6 months, a rare and exceptional circumstance for any particular spot on Earth. On October 14, 2023, an annular solar eclipse bisected Texas southeast from New Mexico to the Gulf of Mexico. Then on April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will head northeast from the Mexico border to Oklahoma, Arkansas and beyond. After traveling to Hawaii in 1991 for my first total solar eclipse, then Wyoming for my next one in 2017, I am very fortunate to reside within the path of this eclipse without traveling at all. In honor of this occasion, I have placed this box at River Ranch County Park, another good place for viewing.
Directions:
Go south on CR 279 for about 2 miles, then right on Reveille Way to River Ranch County Park. Go past several jcts to Trailhead Parking West on left and park at far end by trail map sign.
Clues:
Walk on trail by trail map sign a short way to jct with H trail. Bear right a little way to jct with Bullnettle (B) Trail and go right on it. Cross road and continue on trail to jct with F trail. Go left 18 steps off trail just before jct to bushy cedar tree. LB is at back base under a rock & needles.
