This hunt is for 2 boxes! Hailey’s Adventure and the Cute Lil’ Camper.
These boxes are dedications to Hailey and Quin, two amazing kiddos with a love for adventure. Grandma loves you!
Note: Box 1 is located about 20 mins from the trail entrance, box 2 is approx 5 minutes after.
Head over to Willow Lake, taking Willow Creek Road to Heritage Park Road, across from Embry Riddle
Follow Willow Creek road to the Willow lake entrance just beyond the Heritage zoo entrance
Pay 3.00 toll, worst tool booth ever … the dispenser for tickets is really low. Don’t drive up too close, you’ll probably have to open your door to reach it.
Parking is free on Wednesday!
Follow signs to lake, park in the lot where the boat ramp is located
Begin following the Ecosa trail head. Part of the Willow lake loop trail located away from Ramadas. The trail begins with a sign-in box, attention anglers and a few other maps. Head up the trail!
Beginning at a leisurely pace stay on the main trail. Enjoy the scenery, keeping your eye out for local wildlife and critters.
Continue following the loop trail signs until you come upon the first sign signifying the white dots for trails, follow the dots to the left. Canyon Trail.
Follow the dots!
You will only be on the first big Boulder for 100 feet or so, then the trail drops down into the dirt and heads between some trees…. You’ll see dots intermittently and trail signs. Stay on the main trail.
You’ll come to a large/tall rock formation on the right, follow the white dots as it wraps around the formation towards the right. Follow the path until you meet the next two markers, they are only about 20 feet apart, the second heading to the right at the top of another incline.
Follow the path down about 80 paces from the trail marker.
At the top of the small incline you will meet a Boulder with two white dots facing the trail to climb over (there’s also a dirt trail on the right that you can bypass the boulder) But, don't go over it.
From the first dot look to your left about 3 feet.
There is a cluster of rocks with some sticks and twigs lodged in the middle, under the limbs is the treasure you seek!!!
Don’t forget to re-hide the box!
After Hailey’s adventure it’s time to find the next one!
Continue on the path for the Cute Lil camper.
After Hailey’s box you will quickly come upon another trail marker.
Following the white dots to the left keep hiking for a couple of mins at a leisurely pace.
At the fork, you can go either way, over the boulders or around to the left through the wash to merge up with the trail.
Just after the merge is a trail sign map showing you are on the canyon trail.
Follow the trail to the right
In another minute you'll come upon a trail marker to the left and a culvert with large silver diversion pipes, pass over the culvert, and follow the sign pointing to the right.
You will pass through an area dense with trees and come upon your last marker for this adventure!
At this marker, there are dots following the trail on the boulders.
Standing at the second dot from the marker look to your left, and slightly behind you. Walk 7 paces in that direction until you are right at the crevasse.
Snug between the rocks and under a twig is your treasure!!!
Remember to snug the box back in it’s location and place the twigs back over the box.
You can continue on the loop or head back the way you came.
Cool things to check out:
• Where the dots begin at canyon trail there's a pet cemetery to the left
• Before the boat ramp parking area is an archeological sight with old Indian ruins
• And, the lake! Of course :)
Helpful reminders!
• The rock is the dells is very course and provides great traction but always check your footing and watch for water or sand after rain. Mossy areas may be slippery.
• Bring water
• Remember to re-hide the box in the same area, these are located right on the trail and could be spotted if not hidden properly.
