Start from Reuben Tarte County Park on San Juan Island - this is one of our favorite places on San Juan.
Enjoy the two different beaches on either side of the park. Proceed up onto the large rocky point between the two beaches and enjoy the views. Be careful of the ledges. This point has a 270-degree view from the tip of Speiden Island to Waldron, Orcas, Jones, Shaw, and Lopez Islands, as well as others. There are often eagles in the trees to the north.
Locate three US Coast & Geodetic Survey markers on the north end of the point. Two of the markers have arrows that point to a third marker with a triangle.
Stand on the triangle marker and look back toward the road. Look just under the right tip of where the road curves, and you will see a large rock below the road. Below that rock is a log. Find your way to that log. What you are seeking is inside the north end of the log.
Please re-hide carefully.
