Terrain Difficulty: Easy (slight slope, 3.8 km RT)
The Cabot Trail makes a 185-mile (298-kilometer) loop around a sizeable chunk of Cape Breton Island, passing through Cape Breton Highlands NP at its northernmost point. It is considered one of the world's most scenic destinations, with stunning ocean vistas, old-growth forests & prehistoric rock scarred by glaciers. The trail was named after Italian explorer John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto) who came in 1497, sailing on a mission for King Henry VII of England. The name also celebrates the meeting of Cabot and the Mi'kmaq people, the original inhabitants of Cape Breton Island, at Aspy Bay over 500 years ago. You can find this letterbox on the Middle Head Trail.
Directions:
From NS 30 go east on Keltic In Rd to end and park at Middle Head Trailhead.
Clues:
Walk up steps from trail sign and go right on gravel trail, staying right at all jcts. Just before end of trail at a sign saying "Danger High Cliff", go right 10 steps to left side of several large boulders. Look on back side of highest boulder about chest high for two rocks hiding the LB in a crevice.
