This letterbox is one of a series of letterboxes I have planted for my kids. These are meant to be kid-friendly.
The Greenwich Audobon Society is a great place to explore for people of all ages. Today's adventure will take you down under to Lake Mead!
After parking in the main lot, walk along the paved road with the welcome building to your right. Keep a lookout for signs marked "Lake Trail."
Walk all the way down a steep hill and follow the paved trail/road. Go all the way down to the bottom. (You might see a sign for Lake Trail that takes you into a meadow on your left... feel free to turn here and follow the signs, but it's a little bit more complex). At the bottom the hilll, you will arrive at Georgie’s Pond. Go left following the paved path with the meadow to your left and the trees to your right. Where the paving ends and turns into dirt, there is a sign for the Lake Trail. Turn right into the forest.
You will now be on a sandy/gravel trail.
Only about 200 feet into the forest is another fork. Go left, as marked, to continue on the Lake Trail.
About 15 paces to your right is a boulder only a couple of feet off the trail.
A few minutes later you will arrive at a fork, continue to the right and down a fairly steep hill.
At the bottom of the hill is a sign post signaling the start of the lake loop, where you can turn left or right. To find your blue pup friend, turn left and continue across a boardwalk. Watch your step!
Turn right at the end of the boardwalk around the lake. After a short while, you will soon come to another boardwalk followed by a stone wall and then a bench on your right.
Bluey is close!
25 paces after passing the bench, look left and up the hill.
Up the hill, you will see a rock formation of 6 boulders. At the center of this formation is one pointy boulder. Walk off the path up the hill to this pointy boulder.
Look left.
There is a medium tree about 20 feet away whose trunk splits into a V at about 5 ft off the ground. Your prize rests at the bottom of this tree.
Way to go, mate! You've earned a snack and some stickers!
You can to continue the loop which is gorgeous but a little long for a young one. Before you go, though, head back to the lake loop fork and go right to enjoy the views of a small foot bridge before backtracking to your car.
