Parking Lot Info:
Just off of the Merritt Parkway (Exit 31) turn North on North Street. The Parking Lot is your first left.
Babcock Preserve Parking Lot (41.102951, -73.631430)

Enter the trail at the end of the parking lot, furthest from the road. You will soon come to a fork. Choose the trail to the left with Yellow blazes.

After a short while, you will see a turn to your left onto private property and then another turn off the main trail to your right. Ignore both and continue straight. You will then pass over a stream and stone bridge.

The character your seek would probably love putting on her rain boots and splashing around in the shallow waters with her brother, George!

Continue on straight and make sure you are seeing yellow blazes on the trees in front of you. Make sure to admire the centuries-old stone wall on your right and the large rock formation on your left. Daddy pig would probably be very interested in how they built that wall so many years ago!

After a short walk, you will encounter a long staircase where each step is marked by a very, very long log.

About half way up this staircase, you will see a trail to your right up a small hill marked by white blazes. Follow the trail around a bend to your right and you will see a large fallen tree with its roots sticking out of the ground to your left.

Opposite this tree, on the other side of the trail, is a large rock.

Standing behind this rock, facing the roots of the tree, look over your right shoulder behind you (about 4 o'clock if the roots of the big tree are 12 o'clock). In the distance you will see a pair of smaller boulders with a skinny tree growing out of the center of it. Walk the 25 paces to this tree.

Next to the two boulders and a tree, is a single tree to the left, only 5 feet away.

Your prize is in a small hole at the root of this tree.

Good work! You’ve found our main character! Now go find some muddy puddles to celebrate! hONK!

For the more adventurous and advanced hikers, continue on the white trail back to your car. You will encounter two major forks. Stay to the right both times. Eventually you will be looking for the dark blue blazes which will lead you all the way back to the initial fork at the very beginning of your hike. This route is more scenic but also for the more advanced hiker. It will 4x the time and distance back, so choose wisely!

Otherwise, head back the way you came! See you at the next one! Good job!
