Marl Lake has a fully operational old-fashioned water pump - you have to pump it quite a few times before water starts to come out, but then it's easy to keep it going. It's cold water! This is a public beach and gets crowded on weekends in the summer, and the pump gets a lot of action from washing sandy feet.
To find the box, stand at the pump and face roughly 30 degrees. There is a grassy road leading up the hill that you will need to climb. As soon as you leave the pavement of the parking lot, begin counting - when you are about 45-50 steps up (hill steps are harder to count, it's about halfway up the hill) look left for a five-foot-tall stump about 12 steps into the woods. The box is hidden inside the base of this stump.
