Lost in Austen - Box 1

This series has been planted in honor of Jane Austen’s novels, all of which have been turned into movies. We are fans of both.
Box 1 is in honor of Jane Austen’s first novel, Sense and Sensibility. S&S was published anonymously in three volumes in 1811. This novel takes readers on a comical journey of 19th-century middle-class life as it follows the romantic relationships of Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. The Dashwoods become destitute upon the death of their father, who leaves his home, Norland Park, to their weak half-brother, John. Although on his death bed, John’s father instructs him to take care of his sisters, John is dissuaded of his duty by his selfish, greedy, and just plain awful wife, Fanny.
To find this box, go to South Cemetery in Brooklyn, CT. Enter the entrance closest to the fairground. Find the obelisk that reads “Palmer” face the side for Charlotte Palmer. Although a minor character in Sense and Sensibility, Charlotte Palmer is quite silly and loves nothing more than sharing in a good piece of gossip. To find her frilly bonnet, face “Charlotte Palmer” and walk to the stonewall. At the large pine turn right and count 10 paces to a nook in the wall. Please be respectful of the stonewall, only removing the stone blocking the hole in which Fanny’s bonnet is hiding. Please hide better than you found it.
Hike length: 0.1 miles
