Terrain Difficulty: Easy (flat, 10 yards RT)
Status: alive
I recently read the book Weird Texas by Wesley Treat, and it contained many interesting stories about places in Texas worth visiting, including the Leaning Tower of TX, a gimmick used to draw customers to a truck stop owned by Ralph Britten. Even though the truck stop is gone now, you can still see the leaning water tower after finding this box at Groom Cemetery.
Directions:
For the box, go east on I40 & exit onto RTE 66 for 0.5 mi, then go right (south) on CR BB for 0.7 mile to Groom Cemetery on the left and park by first clump of juniper bushes on left surrounding Drake stone. For the leaning tower, go east on I40 & exit 114, then go left under I40 & right on frontage road for 0.1 mile to view of tower on left.
Clues:
Walk inside juniper bushes and face Drake stone. Look right in juniper next to stone about 3' high for LB under a rock & needles.
Hike length: 0.1 miles
