Find your way to Morton MN and the location of the Birch Coulee battle. There is memorial on the hwy, but your journey begins when you get to the park and journey past the campground. It's a small campground and park and your get to the pavillion at the end in short time.
Now your journey will continue on foot.
From the pavillion look for a stone bridge. Go to the stone bridge and cross it. Thousands of years of raging waters have washed away most evidence of the Swan / Dinosaur battle, but perhaps you can find one last fossil.
After you cross the stone bridge, the path with give an option to climb a steep incline on the right. Carefully go up the path to the right.
At the top of hill, take the path to the left. the path goes on a downward decline.
The path opens up to a wide expanse. Go left along the tree line and find a path labeled "up north".
The "up north" path takes you back into the woods and down a trail. If given a choice, at the bottom....go to the right.
Take the path until you encounter a large geological rock wall / bridge / overpass on your left.
Be careful. the rocks are sharp and dangerous. Continue at your own risk.
Facing the rocks....starting at the top right corner.
Count 3 rocks to the left, and 9 geological layers of rocks down.
Maybe, just maybe you can find one last fossil evidence of an epic battle between dinosaur and swan.
Hike length: 0.5 miles
