This letterbox is a part of my Quilt Block Series and the first one in a long time. The block is called “Meridian”, which I thought was appropriate for the TALE18 event, since it is being held at Meridian State Park near Meridian, Texas. Instead of a traditional design, this one is modern and I don’t know who designed it or named it. Perhaps she lived in Meridian, Texas or Meridian, Mississippi or she had a more abstract concept in mind. Maybe it reminded her of latitudes or longitudes of a special place. We’ll never know, but the name alone fits this particular place. I hope you enjoy it. I have used a blue ink for the stamp, so if you have blue , I hope you use it. Thanks.
Directions: Meridian State Park is located about three miles southwest of Meridian, Texas, off of State Highway 22. Stop by the headquarters building and pay your fee to enter the park. Continue on the road, staying right at the “Y”, with the lake on your left. Cross the one-lane bridge and go uphill past a parking area on your right and look for a trail and parking area on the left. On your map, it’s the one that looks like it’s at a hairpin curve in the road.
To the box: Walk down a short distance to the trail sign and go right. Go uphill about 48 steps to a tree on your right with a yellow ring painted on it, then on up 38 steps to another marked tree on the right. Continue up the trail for 18 steps. Look to the left for a multi-trunked oak tree about 15 steps off the trail. Behind the tree you’ll see a group of white rocks. You know what that means.
Hike length: 0.1 miles
