Fairly easy, short hike, less than 1.5 miles round trip. This is my daughter's first LB and my first in a decade, so we're starting simple. There is also a longer loop you can try out another time. This area is considered an archeological site, so please respect the areas and do not move any rocks or other items in this area. The letterbox is intentionally placed away from these sites.
Canonchet Preserve 725 Main Street, Hopkinton. I-95 Exit 2 Woodville Alton Rd. Exit towards Hopkinton/ Hope Valley. At Rt3, turn left. The preserve will be on your right at the bottom of the hill.
This path has longer options but for today you will take the path to the left with the kiosk. Head up the yellow trail, passing the first white trail that is only a short distance from the parking lot (cut-off 1).
At the second white trail, turn right (cut-off 2). As you head along the white trail, keep an eye out for a large glacial erratic on your left with a somewhat submerged rock in front of it. Stand on this latter rock, and look due North. You will see a large oak growing out of a rock, and beyond that, a three trunked oak. Take about 15 paces (25 if you're my daughter) to this three-trunked-tree. Here you will also see a piece of granite nestled in the base. Look between the oak and the larger rock it grows against. Nestled between the two is the box.
Note: Back on the trail, keep traveling forward and turn right at the blue trail to head back in a loop. You will pass a horse farm, so make sure dogs are leashed. We chose the horseshoe because we like to see the horses at the farm when we travel through.
