This box is located at Hope Lake, a pretty lake and nice open mountain views hike. The drive up can be rough, but it is worth it.
Directions:
From Telluride, go south on Hwy on Hwy 145 for about 10 miles. Turn left just before Trout Lake on left on 63A. Follow the lakeshore to end of lake and look for turn to left for FR627 (do not turn at first road, but go about 30 more yards and turn left on next road which connects - much easier roadbed). Drive up the road being careful for 2.5 miles to trail sign on the right in a sharp curve in the road. Park along road, or go back to parking lot downhill on right.
To the Letterbox:
From the parking area, go to the Trailhead sign and begin trail. Level for about a mile, then climbs up with more views opening up. Above treeline you will climb up grassy slope then reach tail junction and view of Hope Lake. For the box, go left on signed trail for “South Mineral Creek”, counting 80 steps. You should see a rock outcropping on the left, about 3 feet away. Box is in this outcrop about midway, covered with rocks. Great view of lake from here
