Difficulty: Moderately Difficult – High altitude
Distance: 8.8 miles round trip (includes loop to Island lake)

This box is located at Upper Ice Lake, north of Silverton and south of Ouray. Great views most of the way up, and lake was stunning (best hike of trip).

Directions:
From Silverton, go north for 1.9 miles on Hwy 550. Turn left on CR 7 (signed for South Mineral Campground). This is a good gravel road. Go 4.4 miles to parking on the right, with South Mineral Campground to the left. Park.

To the Letterbox:
From the parking area, go to the Trailhead sign and begin trail. Climb up, passing lower Ice Lake, then up the wall and across open area to the lake. At lakeshore, go right and cross the outlet stream. Continue along bank until boulder on your right up the bank. Climb up to it, then on past to large boulder about 20 yards away. Box is at base on this side, under a pile of rocks.

Hike length: 8+ miles
