Terrain Difficulty: Easy (slight slope, 400 yards RT)
Recommended Ink: brown
Status: alive
Initially created as a temporary installation during the 2018 Breckenridge International Festival of Arts, Isak Heartstone is a larger than life wooden troll assembled by Thomas Dambo, a Danish artist and designer who specializes in creating imaginative pieces from recycled materials. The kindly troll acquired his name after three local girls brought Dambo a heart-shaped rock during his assembly. Originally constructed along a trail behind the residential Wellington neighborhood, he now resides on the Trollstigen Trail, where you can also find this box.
Directions:
Go east on Boreas Pass Rd to ice rink on right and park in far southeast corner by Illinois Gulch & Trollstigen Trailhead.
Clues:
At jct, walk straight on Trollstigen Tail to see Isak, but for letterbox go right to another jct. Go left and up on Illinois Creek High Trail, curving right and past large trail going down to right, to Y jct. Bear left & up to T jct with Blue River Bike Path. Go right to stay on Illinois Creek High Trail for 70 steps to strange curved pine tree at left side of trail. Go left off trail 7 steps to medium pine tree with log at left side. LB is at back of tree behind log under a heartstone.
Hike length: 0.1 miles
