Difficulty: Easy
Distance to Letterbox: About 1/2 mile round trip
The Son is place in honor of book I just finished by this name. Fiction story, but based on true events in Texas. Is also a mini-series on TV. The main character spends some time in the Bastrop area, thus fitting for this location (North Shore Park Lake Bastrop). Read the book!
Directions:
From Bastrop, take Hwy 95 out of town. Turn right on FM 1441, and look for signs for the park in 4 or 5 miles. Turn right and go to entry station and pay fee. Get map. Drive ahead and park in lot for boat launch. You should see trail arch on your right before you get to the parking area.
To the Letterbox:
Walk to the trailhead. Take the North Shore Trailway trail until you reach a junction. Go left on the Buzzard Point Trail, counting 150 steps to small creek. Cross over and count 50 more steps. Go right off trail for 12 steps to huge oak tree. Box is at front base of that tree, under sticks and rocks.
Hike length: 0.5 miles
