Terrain Difficulty: Moderate (steep slope, 400 yards RT)
Status: alive
Mount Baldy, or Old Baldy, is located just outside Wimberley and has a series of steps that lead to one of the most amazing panoramic views of the area. It is one of the "Twin Sisters" of Wimberley, the other being Mount Edith, and both are visible as visitors drive into town. When I placed my Stairway to TX Heaven letterbox here 10 years ago, Trinity Church owned Mount Baldy and called it Prayer Mountain. In 2015 the town of Wimberley bought Old Baldy and it is now preserved as Old Baldy Park. So come enjoy the view while finding this box.
Directions:
Go northwest on RR 12, turn left on FM 2325 for about 1 mile, then turn right on Woodcreek Drive into Eagle Estates. Take the first right on El Camino Real, then another right at stop sign on La Toya Trail. Drive about 1/2 mile to Mount Baldy steps on the left and park there or across from them on the right.
Clues:
Climb the steps to the top and continue to the far side. Walk down several natural stone steps to gravel path going left and right. Go right 15 steps, curving right between two cedar bushes, to medium multi-trunk cedar tree on right a few steps uphill. LB is within trunks under a large white rock and needles. You can stamp in with a view of Wimberley below. Please be discreet and replace as described.
