My favorite part of growing up was playing in the lentic. Mom and Dad, and my brother Wally would be busy finding trees to fell, working all day. I remember when Wally was younger, he used to play. Now he helps with the chores and maintains the dwelling. I am older, and no longer have my baby teeth, so I help out too.
I remember the day of my first find. I crossed a bridge and began following these blue markers. I kept passing these blue trees, marked by Mom, Dad and Wally letting me know they were poor quality. Anyhow, I kept passing those and walked for a while when I spotted the perfect tree. It was four parts made out of one. Three of the four grew straight up to the sky, but that fourth one was a bit 'screwy'. I wanted to take this tree to show everyone what I found, but at the time it was just too much for my teeth. So I turned around right there on the trail, took a bearing of 45 degrees. Off trail on the left, I found three separate trees guarding a milky quartz boulder with speckled tufts of moss on it. Open the stone door to see the image of my "first find". I guess that screwy tree will have to wait until I am more experienced at bringing down trees.
Note: If you go beyond some larger non-moving boulders on the path, you went a bit too far. In spring there is water to dodge but it is doable.
Head back to the lot. There are several other boxes in this area! Enjoy!
