This is a 3 Stamp Series in which all 3 stamps make up one large picture. Each one could stand alone just fine, but I should hope that since all 3 may be found along the same 1/2 mile trail that you wouldn't just skip out on finding them all! When logging your books, just stamp the first two on top of each other, leaving blank space on the left of the page. The third stamp goes right there and is the same height as the first two stacked together. Should make a neat little square!
These stamps can be found all along Currey Creek Trail in Boerne. There are several art installations to enjoy and it's a surprisingly tranquil little trail tucked in and hidden away quite nicely between subdivisions and doctors offices. The address I've used for your directions is also the physical address of the City of Boerne Parks and Rec. Department, where you will be parking to start walking out on the trail. Currey Creek Trail is part of Northside Neighborhood Park NOT to be confused with Northside Community Park (the skate park just down the road close the YMCA) Phew! Got it?!
Ok, on to the clue:
Park at Northside Neighborhood Park located at 1017 Adler St, Boerne TX 78006. Then head towards the trailhead which should be pretty easy to spot (currently there is an art installation as pictured here.)
1.) From the Sculpture: Walk along the trail for approx. 371 Steps. As you're nearing the end of these steps the sidewalk should start to snake and bend just about when you see 2-3 large boulders on either side of the trails. The 2nd large flat boulder on the left (right at the "S" Curve in the sidewalk) has a small cluster of trees and shrubs behind it. The largest (if only) tree you will see also has an old barbed wire wooden fencepost now grown into the side of it. Do NOT go into the brush but instead, at the base of this tree on the left is a Rock Cairn that holds your first stamp. *Cairn: noun/Gaelic/ meaning a mound of rough stones built as a memorial or landmark. The Clue for #2 will also be found inside the box!
I debated on whether or not to include the clues for #2 and #3 in this clue, thinking it'd be more fun to find them when you locate each stamp, but, in fear that one or another may get stolen or moved I've decided to go ahead and include on the off chance #1 goes missing and nobody knows how to find #2 and #3 lol.
2.) From the first stamp's location, keep going along the trail for 120 Steps. At this point, you will reach the 1/4 Mi. Marker on the trail. From the stone marker, proceed forward another 150 steps. 2 small shrubby trees will be on your right, and then just beyond them a few feet further back, you will notice a small thicket of brush and trees that rest on and around a 5-foot high mound/hill of dirt and rocks. Step off the trail when you reach the hill/mound and walk 30 paces AROUND to the BACK of the mound to find the easiest way in to the thicket. (the front is a little tricky with thornbushes and vines etc) Just up the incline a few feet, will be two little trees directly ahead, atop the center of the mound. There is another Rock Cairn at the base of them hiding Stamp #2!
3.) Back on the Trail from where you found #2, simply continue strolling along the trail. You will shortly arrive at a resting place complete with a trash can, stone picnic bench and a trail marker with a plaque that reads "Mysterious Creek." From the placard go forward 75 final steps. You will notice a rather large, and mostly dead remnant of an old Oak tree. It's hard to miss as you approach it on your left, as it is also the only old tree that has a long and very obvious 2x4 nailed into its branches about 8 ft. long. (all that remains of a much older tree house I suspect.) Step off the trail and head to the tree, walking around the back side of it. 4 feet up from the ground, the trunk has a very large hole in it that is very obscured by vines and overgrowth, BUT simply remove the little sticks that are jutting out from the hole and you will see Box #3 hiding right there inside of the tree! It's fairly easy to just reach your hand in and grab it...but overgrown enough to hide the box AND make it something most people wouldn't try to inspect to carefully.
I hope you enjoy your travels but one last request...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure each box is placed back exactly as you found them, hidden and indeed out of sight. As you will more than likely notice when attempting to find them, THIS IS A VERY WELL TRAVELED TRAIL. In the 45 mins it took my kids and I to plant the letterboxes we saw no less than a dozen people walking along the trail back and forth and it was just a Monday afternoon.
May I also suggest BEFORE STEPPING OFF THE TRAIL TO RETRIEVE THE BOX, DOUBLE CHECK BOTH IN FRONT AND BEHIND YOU THAT NO ONE IS APPROACHING WHO MAY SEE YOU AND BECOME CURIOUS ENOUGH TO GO LOOKING AFTER YOU REPLANT THE STAMP. It looks suspicious if "old lady joggers" see some folks 'hiding' in the bushes for a few minutes lol. My advice is, locate a box, take it back out with you onto the trail to log it, THEN head back and re-plant it to minimize the time you're around the location of its hiding place.
