"Into every generation a slayer is born: one girl in all the world, a chosen one.
She alone will wield the strength and skill to fight the vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness;
to stop the spread of their evil and the swell of their number. She is the Slayer."

Established 1680, the Old Burying Ground, or Old Graveyard, was the site of the notorious grave robberies of 1818. Of the 2000 plus residents interred in this burial ground, the stones of around 375 are still standing today, including those of prominent reverends and many Revolutionary War soldiers.

Park somewhere along Main Street, and duck into the cemetery through the gap in the wall. Pass by the Old Hearse House on your left. Most of the stones in the center and to the right (facing the cemetery) are 19th century stones. To the left are the older 18th (slate) and 17th century (schist) stones. You're going to venture towards the back of the cemetery, but take your time and meander a bit, observing the carvings on these ancient gravestones. Make sure to seek out the table tomb for Rev. John Wise during your explorations.

To find The Chosen One letterbox, you'll need to head to the back left corner of the cemetery. Search for the connected trio of gravestones for Anna, Caroline, and Abner Burnham (photo shared on AtlasQuest link). Standing in front of these gravestones, look to your left to see a long piece of granite in the grass, laying parallel to the stone wall at the back of the cemetery. Standing on the pointy tip on the right end of this piece of granite, facing towards the back of the cemetery, look directly ahead to the tree standing just behind the stone wall. Clamber over that wall (be very careful not to disturb the stones of this old wall! We climbed over a lower spot several paces to the right, just past the large split stone). Buffy: The Chosen One is nestled in a crevice in the wall beside this tree. Please rehide just as well as, if not better than, you found it.

Thank you for seeking out the first in our Buffy the Vampire letterbox series! More will be planted in the future in other cemeteries throughout the North Shore region.
