“Help me, fellow Letterboxer, you're my only hope.”

Leia Organa served as princess of Alderaan, a member of the Imperial Senate, a general in the Alliance to Restore the Republic, then a senator in the New Republic, and the founding general of the Resistance. While the Star Wars original trilogy may have been the story of Luke Skywalker’s hero's journey…my personal idol was always Leia. In her very first scene of "A New Hope," she’s holding a blaster, intending to defend herself as her ship is invaded by Imperials.

Leia can be found organizing the Resistance at the Gabriel and Selma Kleimola Reservation in Gloucester, MA.

Property information (including history, directions, parking information, and even GPS location) can be found here:

From the trailhead at the end of Leverett Street, follow the trail into the property. Almost immediately, the trail will pass between two quarries, then come to a T-intersection. At the T, turn left. Continue to follow this main trail, ignoring an upcoming trail that branches off to the right. You’ll be keeping the long quarry on your left as you walk. Another side trail will merge in front the right...ignore that one as well, and continue along the left fork.

Soon enough, the trail will come to another fork: the left branch will rise up while the right branch dips down, leading towards another quarry (looking down the right fork, you should be able to see the quarry ahead of you). Head down this trail on the right towards this small quarry. On the day we were here, we spent quite a while at the water's edge observing massive tadpoles and a school small sunfish lazily swimming about.

There’s a small pine and miniature birch tree growing side-by-side between blocks of granite at the quarry’s edge. Standing in front of these trees, with your back to the quarry, look into the woods in front of you. Slightly off to the right, you should see a massive clump of multi-trunked trees growing above and around a large triangular-shaped chunk of granite (about 3-4 steps off of the clearing). Duck under the overhanging branches and come around to the left side of the trunks and rock. There’s a hollow in one of the trunks, in which Leia can be found. May the Force be with you.

Please be sure that the box's lid is latched tightly before re-hiding well. From here, you simply retrace your steps to return to your car. However, if you decide to continue exploring this property, be sure to seek out our other letterbox, Bookworm, which we planted on the same day.
