LETTERBOX IS REMOVED FOR THE WINTER. SEE YOU IN 2023.

The John Brown Farm State Historic Site, located at the end of John Brown Road in Lake Placid, New York, was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1998. It is the home and final resting place of abolitionist John Brown (1800-1859). The grounds are open to the public year round, sunrise to sunset. Historic house tours are offered from May thru October, 10 am to 5 pm, closed Tuesdays.

For more information go to: https://parks.ny.gov/historic-sites/29/details.aspx

CLUES:

Park on John Brown Farm Road in the gravel parking lot (on the left) located just before the Historical Site of the John Brown Farm and Homestead.
When pulling into the parking lot the Olympic ski jumps will be in view.
To the left is a “trail” sign.
Follow this trail.
In approximately 150 yards is a lone birch tree on the left with a blue trail marker.
Continue on the trail to a post on the right with blue and red trail markers.
Follow the blue trail marker.
In approximately 15 yards turn left.
The Olympic ski jumps will now be in view on the right side of the trail.
At the end of the trail turn right following the red trail marker.
Continue on the trail as it curves and winds down thru the woods.
Along the way look for 4 clusters of large birch trees.
The first cluster will be on the left, and the remaining clusters will alternate sides, right, left and right.
Immediately after the 4th cluster turn right onto an unmarked trail which leads to a grove of pine trees.
Look for a large pine tree on the right.
At the base of the tree, hidden under birch logs, is Birches at John Brown Farm.

Please re-hide well.

Happy Hunting!
