Monte Sano State Park is located, near Huntsville, in northeast Alabama. In Spanish, Monte Sano means “Mountain of Health.” In the late 1800s, visitors from across the United States came for “the season” to experience and enjoy Monte Sano’s fresh air, spectacular views and mineral springs.
Today in the park they have many activities that bring people to the park. Hiking and Biking trails, Camping and Cabins, History and fun new activities abound. On your visit to the park you will need to pay an entrance fee and you may want to stop by the camp store and pick up a map before you head to the trail head parking lot.

From the Trail head parking lot head South along the South Plateau Trail to the split and go to the right. Cross over the intersection of the Fire Tower Trail and keep going to the third bridge. Now go on to the next shelter on the left side of the trail. Take a break on the bench. After look behind you for a three sister tree. At the base you will find a rock on the box. (Pie)(HT31)

On down the trail just past the shelter on the right side of the trail is a short side trail, on the right, with a Turkey leg tree. Look at its base. (Turkey)(HT30)

You have come this far why not go on up the trail some more, but you can head back to your car if you want.

Hike length: 1-2 miles
