This series of 3 boxes is located on the Deer Trail at Prince Gallitzin State Park. There is a parking lot at the Point Trailhead on Beaver Valley Road --the Deer Trail starts at the end of the parking area.
The letterbox's log book is located in Box Number 3.
Box Number 1--
Go to the starting point of the Deer Trail and start walking on the fork that goes to the left. Watch for Teal colored markers on the trees. You will come to a juncture with the Crooked Run Trail (this was marked "closed" when we were there) From that juncture, walk 125 steps on the Deer Trail (I have a small stride) and look to your right for a tree with 5 large branches growing out from one stump. (The tree splits into 6 branches farther up the tree.) Look around the back of the tree for a fairy home marker. Stand at the back of the tree (with your back to it) and directly ahead of you is a smooth barked tree. Look for the first stamp around the base of the tree. Stamp your book, reseal and hide the letterbox carefully.
Box Number 2--
Continue on the Deer trail until you come to a long narrow clearing. Continue across the clearing, back into the trees and look for the first tree marked with the teal color. (on the left) There is a large tree behind the teal marked tree--it splits into 2 thick branches. Look around the back of the tree where the branches split and you will find another fairy home marker. About 20 steps from the tree is a very old stump that looks like a bunch of spikes. Carefully, look for Box number 2 in the stump. Stamp your book, and reseal and hide the letterbox carefully.
Box Number 3--
Continue on the Deer Trail until you see a wooden bench on the right. Keep walking until you see a large tree with rough bark, with a small tree with smooth bark growing out of the base (towards the left). The tree has moss covered roots that look like octopus tentacles. (If you come to a second wooden bench, you have gone too far). Look at the bottom of the tree near the small smooth tree and you will find the last fairy home marker. Stand in front of the tree and look to the left. There is a large log laying on the ground that splits into two branches--look where the branches split, and you will find Box Number Three. Be sure to place your stamp in the log book! Please reseal the box and hide it carefully.
Hike length: 1 mile
