Your journey begins beyond the Fairmont Chateau, where a kiosk marks the end of the pavement and the beginning of the earth trail to Lake Agnes and the Beehives. Here, a horse trail towards Ross Lake crosses your route, and is marked by a square wooden beam. Let's count this one as #1, although the subsequent wooden indicators that you'll need to count are of a round, more natural variety.
Head uphill toward Lake Agnes to #2, then pass a large stump in the trail on the left before #3. Continue on to #4, and then further up to find #5 and #6 quite close together. When you reach #7, turn around and go back 8 steps to a tree along the trail that's now on your right. When the coast is clear, take about two steps off trail down the hill to find the box under a long-fallen log, wedged behind a rock.
Hike length: 1 mile
