This letterbox is part of the GO and Build a Better World! program in Adams County. It will be available from June 3, 2017 to July 29, 2017. Further details about the program may be found at www.goadams.org.
The GO and Build a Better World! program requires you to search for up to 15 “landmarks” – wooden posts with engraved plates on them, instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please use a colored pencil or crayon to carefully rub the impression onto your GO and Build a Better World! rubbing sheet, available for free at any Adams County Library.
GO Adams! level of difficulty = Moderate
NOTE: Cross Keys Village is a friendly campus. Don’t be surprised when people greet you and wave as you walk. Remember to say “hello” back or talk with them!
- Enter Cross Keys Village using Village Drive off Route 30. Follow signs on campus to the Harvey S. Kline Wellness Center on Harmony Drive.
- Drive past the Community Center/Campus Inn main entrance and park in one of the spaces along the street facing the Wellness Center. There is a speed riser and fire hydrant nearby. You should also see the glass enclosure for the pool.
- If needed, you can take the sidewalk into the facility for restrooms and water fountains.
- Starting outside the Wellness Center. Turn right and follow the sidewalk past the main entrance down to the crosswalk at the “T” intersection.
- Carefully cross the street at the crosswalk and turn left, remaining on the sidewalk.
- When you reach the next road, turn right and proceed down the hill across four crosswalks. The parking lot and campus cottages should be on your right as you walk down the hill.
- Remain on the crosswalk as it continues alongside the large building and under a portico (awning). You should see some water ahead.
- Continue along the edge of the roadway until you reach the pathway with lights along it and a post with white signs on it. These signs show different translations of the phrase: “May Peace Prevail On Earth.”
- Turn right at the edge of the water and walk counter-clockwise around it. You should be facing Route 94.
- Locate the landmark post near the evergreen tree.
- Continue around the water and retrace your steps back to the parking area. Remember to turn left at the top of the hill (after the 4 crosswalks) and cross at the crosswalk closest to Harmony Ridge Apartments.
Hike length: 1 mile
