This letterbox is part of the GO and Build a Better World! program in Adams County. It will be available from June 3, 2017 to July 29, 2017. Further details about the program may be found at www.goadams.org.

The GO and Build a Better World! program requires you to search for up to 15 “landmarks” – wooden posts with engraved plates on them, instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please use a colored pencil or crayon to carefully rub the impression onto your GO and Build a Better World! rubbing sheet, available for free at any Adams County Library.

GO Adams! level of difficulty = Moderate

- Start your journey at the historic log cabin, a landmark for Strawberry Hill visitors that was built in 1798 using American Chestnut. The cabin was painted pink by the Frances Froelicher, one of the founders of Strawberry Hill – you can’t miss it!
- Pick up a trail map at the kiosk in front of the cabin and the special guide for the “cultural history” hike to help you on your trek.
- Locate the trail with white blazes behind the log cabin and follow it through a stand of pine trees. You will go down a small step and continue North, away from the pond. Remember to follow the white blazes.
- Follow the trail as it slowly curves to the right and passes through a wetland area. You’ll travel along the left side of Swamp Creek.
- When you reach a footbridge over Swamp Creek, cross and follow the trail past the sign about swamps and owls. It will turn sharply to the left. Stay on the white-blazed trail!
- Continue until you reach another bridge. Cross the bridge and you are at a junction. Remain on the white-blazed trail as it crosses the third bridge or your journey. Do NOT take the pink-blazed trail!
- Yet another bridge takes you over an area that water has eroded into a small ravine – this spot becomes a small waterfall in springtime.
- After these bridges, the trail will turn up the hill and away from the creek.
- Partway up the hill, you will find a small clearing with a kiosk. This is “Grand Central Station” and where you will find the post.
- To return to your vehicle, you have options. Return the way you came, finish the Nature tail by continue along the white-blazed trail, or following another trail on your map to extend your journey.

Hike length: 1 mile
