To reach Found Land Rec. Area in Avon
Take Huckleberry Hill Rd. out of Unionville or Collinsville to Lofgren Rd. near the Canton line. Turn left onto Newcastle, right onto Kingswood and right onto St. Michaels.
OR
From Canton, take Rt. 177 south to Sunrise Rd. on the right which very soon makes a left turn, take it. Then take the 2nd right, Queens Peak, then left onto Kingswood to St. Michaels.
Look for the sign for Found Land Rec. Area. Park in the cul de sac. The kiosk is just inside the woods. Be sure to stay on yellow ignoring the other colors. (Red is boundary).
I had carved a stamp to be placed on or near Music Mountain but decided to head for Avon, CT. Bell Lady had orchestrated a few of her boxes and I decided to play along with a few strings attached!
So go for Bell Lady's Orchestra boxes. After her saxophone box, begin the search for Jacob's Choice. Continue on yellow turning left at that four way intersection with the houses straight ahead. Start an easy downward walk then at the "Y" take a right which begins a steeper downward slope. Walk through a second intersection staying on yellow. Walk passed a fair sized white birch on your right. This tree has a long dark stripe on the opposite side. Just passed the birch look to the left. About 8 paces off trail is a very short stump with several rocks scattered all about the area. Next to the stump is a young white pine. The rock behind the stump about knee high and perfect for sitting on is the one that holds Jacob's Choice Letterbox. Please be very gentle with the stamp as it is delicate. Replace the box with the rock and forest debris. Note: If you get to Bell Lady's #3 box you just missed it.
Kudos to Bell Lady for planting these stamps and for sharing a fun trail.
Hike length: 1-2 miles
