Terrain Difficulty: Easy (slight slope, 400 yards RT)
Recommended Ink: green & red
Status: alive
The Hamilton Greenbelt trail network, including Smith Greenbelt and Hurst Creek Preserve, now offers several miles of both developed and primitive trails that wander along Hurst and Yaupon Creeks. For many years an old abandoned Volkswagen, hidden away under a huge cliff in Hamilton Greenbelt II, was decorated for Christmas by a rarely seen couple living in Lakeway. Then in 2008 authorities decided the old car was unsafe and removed it, putting an end to this joyous tradition. Hopefully this letterbox will keep the memory alive.
Directions:
Go west on Lakeway Blvd, right on Duck Lake, then right on Palos Verdes to Hamilton Greenbelt 2 parking on right.
Clues:
Walk across creek to jct and go right on Palos Verdes Trail. Continue straight past marker #38 to a small cement arch bridge. Just past the bridge go right uphill at jct for 45 steps to boulders on each side of trail. Look right to double-trunk cedar tree a few steps away next to another boulder. LB is at left base under rocks.
Hike length: 0.1 miles
