This box is planted in honor of the beautiful Bombay Cat. The Bombay is named in honor of the Indian City of that name because of the resemblance the cat bears to the black panther - a native of India. In the 1950s, an American breeder tried to recreate the look of the panther by crossing black American Shorthairs and Sable Burmese. The Bombay was first recognized in the mid 1970s. The short, shiny coat is very close lying, with a sheen like jet black patent leather, hence the cat's nickname in America: "the patent-leather kid with the new penny eyes." Of course, black ink is in the box!
Start at Trail Marker #7 behind Buck Lodge and head straight up the hill. When you come to the trail marker for the Forest Loop/Main Trail, take the forest loop which bears left. When you come to the fork in the trail, continue to follow the forest loop (at the blue trail marker) to the left. You will walk over a tree lying across the path. Walk about 25 paces and look for the big boulder to the left just off the trail. You will see at the bottom of the boulder a crevice shaped like a "tepee," and your prize is hiding well underneath.
Hike length: 1 mile
