Our girl Scout Troop spent an overnight at the Hooper Straight Lighthouse, located at the Chesapeake Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, Maryland.

St. Michaels is known as the town that fooled the British. During the war of 1812 when the British were sailing up the Chesapeake Bay the townspeople hung lanterns in the trees and extinquished the one in their houses, thus causing the British to overshoot the house with their cannons. Only one house was hit during the bombardment.

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is a collection of buildings bringing to life ship building and the oyster
business on the Chesapeake Bay.

When you enter the Visitor's Center, ask the person behind the desk for the letterbox. You will need to bring your own ink. Enjoy!
