This is the second of our ‘Legends of Jackson County’ series. As unlikely as it might seem to the casual observer who meanders through the sleepy hills of Jackson county, one of the greatest political figures of Ohio history was born and raised here. Born in a humble little house that is sometimes open to visitors today, this legend of Ohio politics learned from his working class neighbors the themes that would resonate with the working people of Ohio and cause them to elect him to the governor’s office for more years than anyone else – jobs and low taxes. Although his tenure was marred by one of the great tragedies of Ohio history, it seems likely that history will remember him in a mostly positive light for his legacy of roads, airports, and jobs as well as making the Ohio State Fair a major event. Though he rose to the heights of wealth and power, he never forgot his humble Jackson county roots. To find our box honoring him, decipher the following:
KCXMO XEZUB MNARK CUSBF WFBSR
EZLER LLFZR IAWVH IYVFF SSMEZ
FLLQF DTSKX BHGZB LLFMW ISWXG
UFZBY XIYII CFXEI RIHGC POUCS
XXJMD KFWIX CWYGF EHUEF ILLFU
GYWYL XBHIS SPJGE YOKFS INVBG
JGSRL ZDJJH GSWYN JGKZR ARHCQ
KVAWT HDXIF HFLVF AWPFU YVG
You’ll have an easier time with this if you remember the name of Citizen Kane’s sled.
