Kelley Library

Clues:
Start in the Kelley Library parking lot.
Once there, head up to the entrance of the second floor.
Here you will see a fag pole, walk to it.
Face the flag pole, and count four bushes to your right.
RIght after the fourth bush, turn left and continue down the hill.
Count 21 steps, staying along the libraries wall.
There should be a pine on the right.
Hidden in a fork, is what you seek.

History:
In 1798, an act by the state legislature which was the beginning of a social library in Salem. The Free Public Library arose in 1893. The state offered the library one hundred dollars worth of books if they were to raise one fourth of the amount. On February 17, 1894 the library opened. There were just thirty-six books.
The first location of the library was the old school house, but the town hall. However it was moved to it’s current location in 1895 when a new library was built thanks to Arthur Kelley. The number of books also rose, with a circulation of 734 books. The name was then changed to the Kelley Library in honor of Arthur.
In 1978 an addition to the library was added, under the organization of the libraries director Edward Reed. This added the children’s section, and the reference department. The library was then update with new technology in 1996.
More recently, in 2008, the library acquired a new director, Alison Baker. She organized another technology update. The library is a great community building, that happens to be one of the oldest in the town. The Kelley Library is such an important historical site in Salem, and is still in use today.
